I’ve had the opposite experience. It seems like the vast majority of men who hit on me/try to initiate something are married. These aren’t strangers either. I know their wives, they know my boyfriend, and we all hang out on fairly regular occassions. I’ve been in a relationship with my bf for over 5 years now, so why is that I seem to ooze “home-wrecking whore”?

The other woman, usually remains anonymous.
There is far less risk for her.
My point is that socially she is relatively over looked because she is elusive. She might be called a home wrecking whore if discovered but I think the majority of the venom is directed towards the one that made the oath. (as it appears it should be)
The opposite? the other man, could very well be facing a gun, baseball bat or serious ass whooping and I assure you the husband would find out who he is.

I don’t think *all* of the blame falls on the man. “The Other Woman” is a pretty horrible thing to be–she gets ostracized and is called a home wrecker and all sorts of other horrible things. People whisper behind her back, stare, and point… She’s also usually painted as a whore, a gold-bricker, and a bitch–not warm, fuzzy, nice things at all. And God help her if she comes face to face with the man’s wife, her sister, her friends, or her mother. Not pretty. Maybe the blame seems less obvious to men, but it is very real among women. Very few women I know are very forgiving of “the other woman.”

Totally agree, in the US all the responsibility is piled on the man. I would like to see more women take very seriously the damage the create by allowing the excitement of the inappropriate catch them up.

I am calling BULLSHIT that a girl who knowingly sleeps with a married man isn’t culpable for the inevitable disaster. It’s called personal responsibility. It’s called not holding yourself so cheaply that you’d give yourself to a philanderer.

Maybe in Europe they have a different sensibility about the subject, but in the US, you’re The Other Woman, and he’s a manwhore.

All the points you mentioned I agree with, but it basically comes down to the fact that once a woman sees that you already have what you want, it means 2 things.
1) you got something to offer, 2) you don’t care about wanting to get with her.
