Jeanette raises an interesting point. I actually would be more bothered if a girl I was emotionally involved with told me she had a threesome with two guys than if she gave me a high number. In fact, I think it would probably be a deal-breaker for me. Double standard? Sure. But there it is. Not man enough to handle it? I guess not, but then again, most guys in their late 20s/early 30s can afford to be picky.

I think you missed the point of the article. I am not condoning that he slut around while you stay virginal. I am only explaining that men and women have a knee jerk, genetically programmed response to certain things.

This is a good topic
When does a guy become man enough to be able to handle when a girl gets as wild as he would like to be.
Never?
I struggle with it myself if I am emotionally involved with a girl. If not… I could care less. For example my ex is now back on the dating scene and it is bugging the hell out of me. I am wise enough to look the other way when guys show up on her facebook but still ouch!
Maybe finding a guy that can handle your past/present promiscuity is a great indicator of emotional maturity.

This topic has inspired me to vent:

I just came back from a very unproductive conversation with my recent ex-bf. (Side note: yes, Mike, it was the cop from my last post that everyone warned me off dating…)

We were meeting to ’swap our stuff’ and the converstion turned unhealthy, as it sometimes can. Turns out that – even though we were highly sexually compatible – one of his key reasons for the breakup was that he ‘knew too much’ about my past.

I’d never given him the ‘number’ (which, based on comments above, I will never give to anyone again!), but he was plagued by knowledge about a certain ‘incident’ that I’d shared when we were in the early stages of the I’m-a-bigger-player-than-you dating game.

Pathetic? Infuriating? Irrational? I understand the need for discretion and the whole DNA argument… but seriously. I like my men to be man enough to deal.

I would agree with what he said, in general a girl becomes a “slut” if she has passed 15. I know this is ridiculous since I have pulled that off in a good summer.
Also it would be a good thing to know his number first then adjust accordingly.

I’d offer this as a good rule of thumb:

If you’re between 25-30 and have slept with more than 10 guys: Lie.
If you’re between 30-35 and have slept with more than 15 guys: Lie.

When you lie, keep it under 10. We don’t really expect women at these ages to be chaste or virginal, but nor do we need to know details. Knowing allows our imaginations to run wild, and then we’ll assume the worst.

A guy will tell you he wants to know your number, but what he really means is “I want to know your number and I want it to be relatively low (at least lower than mine).”
